Representative Ami Bera, M.D. Hosts 7th Annual Brain Health Forum

Alzheimer's disease remains one of the leading causes of death in America, directly impacting nearly 700,000 Californians each year.

ELK GROVE, CA – Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-07) today hosted his 7th Annual Brain Health Forum to provide Sacramento County residents with information on the latest in Alzheimer's research and what community resources are available to assist caregivers and persons living with Alzheimer's or other dementias.

“As a doctor, I have seen the emotional strain, financial hardship, and long-term impact that Alzheimer’s has on families and loved ones,” said Representative Bera, who previously served as Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County. “One of the scariest aspects for any patient or family receiving a diagnosis is not knowing what comes next or which resources are available to them. My office is proud to host this forum annually to provide relief to Sacramento County families and patients.”

“We are thankful to have Congressman Bera year after year championing the importance of brain health and of helping those impacted by Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. The Brain Health Forum has been a crucial way of linking community members to information & local resources, like those from the Alzheimer’s Association,” said Eric Dowdy, Vice President of Policy for California & Nevada for the Alzheimer’s Association who spoke at the event.

This year’s annual Brain Health Forum’s featured speaker was Alexandra Castillo-Weisgerber, LCSW who serves as the Director of Care & Support for the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. She spoke on the warning signs of Alzheimer’s and other illnesses.

Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen of Elk Grove attended and provided welcome remarks which included her own family’s personal journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
