I sent an email update on Monday with an important reminder to get your flu shot. Join my email updates now so you don't miss any in the future!

As a doctor and the former Chief Medical Officer of Sacramento County, I take recent incidents of Ebola very seriously. I know many local families have concerns, and I'm working in Congress to make sure we're prepared.

But while we must continue working to meet this challenge, the fact is that we are all at much greater risk of getting the flu.

In fact, last year's flu season was one of the worst in recent memory. 27 of our neighbors in Sacramento County tragically died from the flu last year alone.

So in case you haven't already, I wanted to remind you to get your flu shot for this year >>

This morning, I dropped by a local Walgreens in Elk Grove to get my flu shot for this season.

Getting a flu shot is the single best way to protect yourself and the ones you love from the flu.

And in case you didn't know, Sacramento County is offering free flu shots through November. Their Adult and Family Flu Vaccination Clinics are open to all who attend.

>> You may click here to find a free clinic near you.

You may also call the Sacramento County Immunization Assistance Program at (916) 875-SHOT (7468) for more information.

So if you haven't already gotten your flu shot for this year, please do so. And remember - you can help stop the spread of germs by washing your hands and by staying home if you are sick.

Be well,

Ami Bera, M.D.
