Email update sent on Saturday, February 21st, 2015

I sent an email update on Monday with an invite to my local swearing-in ceremony, and a brief update on how I've been working for you. Join my email updates now so you don't miss any in the future!

I hope you and your family are doing well! Here's an invite to my local swearing-in ceremony and open house, and a brief update on how I've been working for you.

Invite: District Swearing-in Ceremony and Open House on Saturday, February 28th

Next Saturday, my local office is hosting a district swearing-in ceremony and open house. I’m eager to reaffirm my oath of office before the people of Sacramento County as I begin my second term serving you.

My staff and I will be available to answer your questions, and light refreshments will be provided. We will also be sharing information on how my local office can help connect area businesses and families with resources and help.

Congress should be a place for service where we put people ahead of politics. I look forward to this event starting off the new term in that spirit and I would be honored to have you there with me. Here are all the details:

Who: Rep. Bera, Hon. Darrell Steinberg (administering the oath), Bera staff, and you!
Where: Saturday, February 28th, 10:00 AM to Noon
When: 8950 Cal Center Drive
Building 3, Suite 100
Sacramento, CA 95826

Empowering Local Small Businesses

Earlier this week, I was pleased to highlight our local small businesses and to work with business owners to get them the tools they need to grow and hire.

First, I helped kick-off the opening of a new Small Business Development Center in Elk Grove. This new center will help our local small business owners with free technical assistance, help with creating new business plans, assistance with accessing low-cost loans from the Small Business Administration, and much more.

I fought to bring this new center to our area to support our small businesses and grow our economy.

The Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce is now a hub in the new Small Business Development Center network that will serve our area. Other hubs will serve the rest of our eight northern California counties.

Later in the week, I was honored to also join with the Administrator of the Small Business Administration, Maria Contreras-Sweet, at a roundtable with local businesses. It was a great opportunity to meet with her and to hear from local small business owners about how government can be a strategic partner, not an obstacle.

Valentines for Vets

Recently, my staff and I were honored to also participate in the National Salute to Veteran Patients week in the “Valentines for Vets” program.

Under this initiative, local elementary school students learned about the service and sacrifices of our nation’s veterans. They then made Valentine’s Day cards for veterans at Mather VA hospital. I was pleased to meet with the students and to deliver their cards to Mather.

It was heart-warming to hear from the students on what they'd learned about veterans, and I always enjoy visiting the Mather VA Hospital. This was a fun and creative way to help show our veterans how much our community cares.

As a doctor who has helped care for veterans, I've seen their sacrifices first-hand. Our heroes deserve our unwavering support. If you or someone you know is a veteran who needs help with backlogged benefits, health care, or another problem with the federal government, please call us at (916) 635 0505 or visitbera.house.gov/helpforvets for more information.

As always, I’m humbled to serve you in Congress. Please never hesitate to call or write to share your views with me.

Be well,
