Creating jobs in Sacramento County and building an economy that works for middle class families are my top priorities. Here’s a brief update on how I’m working to grow our economy:

New Small Business Workshop and Job Fair

I’ve toured a number of local Small Businesses in Sacramento County, including Glide Cruisers, USA, a local manufacturer in Folsom.

My office will take part in two events this month to help grow Sacramento County’s economy.

On Tuesday, July 15th, my office will be hosting a workshop to connect local small business owners with data that’s available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Taking advantage of this information can help businesses make the right strategic decisions now so they can grow and hire in the future.

Later on Thursday, July 24th, my office will participate in a Job Fair with Assemblyman Ken Cooley to assist local residents who are looking for work. Local employers who are hiring will be there, and you can also take part in workshops on improving interviewing skills, and get information on how to apply for state and federal jobs.

Here is the information for both events:

Helping Local Small Businesses

Visiting T3 Toner LLC in Rancho Cordova, a local small business and California’s leading recycler of printer cartridges, storage media and surplus imaging supplies.

I’m pleased to announce that new federal funds will now go towards helping local small businesses pursue federal government contracts. I’m proud to have advocated for this funding to strengthen our economy.

The federal government procures numerous contracts with private businesses every year for a wide range of goods and services – everything from food, to printer ink, to jet engines. For many small businesses, federal government contracting can be an especially valuable growth opportunity.

And now more local companies will have an opportunity to compete on a level playing field for these contracts by having access to additional training, counseling, and other resources that they may need to build their capacity.

This is a great example of how we can work together to make government work for small businesses.

Passing Bipartisan Job Training and Education Bill

Touring the Crossroads Service Training Center, where local job seekers are connected with resources and assistance to find employment.

We need better job training and easier access to vocational degrees to help get this country back to work.

That’s why I was proud to vote for the bipartisan Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to improve our nation’s workforce development system. The President will soon sign this bill into law.

This legislation streamlines a number of workforce development programs and allows state and local governments to tailor services to their own needs.

It also helps job seekers access real-world and on-the-job training so they can get the work experience they need, and enables businesses to identify in-demand skills and to connect workers with opportunities to build those skills.

There’s much more to do and I will keep working tirelessly to build an economy that works for Sacramento County’s middle class families. You may learn more about my work on this issue by visiting my Jobs and the Economy page. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts with me. My door is always open.

Be well,
