Email update sent on Saturday, October 25th, 2014

I sent an email update on Saturday to let Sacramento County seniors know about Medicare open enrollment. Join my email updates today so you don't miss any in the future!

As a doctor, I've cared for numerous seniors who've paid into and rely on Medicare. We must honor the promises that we've made to our seniors. That's why I'm refusing my congressional pension until Social Security and Medicare are secure.

And in case you didn't know, this is an important time for many local seniors – Medicare open enrollment has begun.

This is a chance for seniors to make changes to their Medicare plans if they want to, or to sign up for 2015 coverage.

You may click here to go to the Medicare Plan Finder to review, compare, or join a 2015 plan.

The enrollment period ends on December 7th, 2014. Here are some other helpful resources:

• Check Your Enrollment: Check your current and future enrollment.

• Enroll in a Medicare Plan: Click if you already know the name of the plan you want to join.

• More Info: This article may be helpful if you're on Medicare Advantage or on a prescription drug plan.

You can get one-on-one counseling assistance from the California Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program by calling 1-800-434-0222

Please remember that during this Open Enrollment Period, Medicare will never ask you to give your personal information to anyone arriving at your home uninvited or making unsolicited phone calls selling Medicare-related products or services. Beneficiaries who believe they are a victim of fraud or identity theft should contact 1-800-MEDICARE. More information is available at www.stopmedicarefraud.gov

If you have any questions or need help, please don't hesitate to call my office at (916) 635 0505. Making government work for you is one of my most important jobs, and we're here to help Sacramento County seniors.

In fact, we've helped local seniors recover nearly $150,000 in backlogged Social Security and Medicare benefits. If you think you may need help, visit my Help for Seniors page at bera.house.gov/helpforseniors to learn more.

Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you know, in case they need help too.

Be well,
