Ami's Updates

I sent an email update on Thursday about how I'm making government work for you. Join my email updates now so you don't miss any in the future!

It’s been busy in Washington and back at home in Sacramento County! Here’s an update on how I’m working for you and your family:

Great News: Serving in New Committee Leadership Posts to Deliver for Sacramento County

I’m excited to share that I’m now serving in two new Committee leadership positions.

First, as a kid who grew up during the space race dreaming of what lay beyond us, I am honored to now serve as the ranking member for the Subcommittee on Space.

Space exploration is essential for not only furthering our understanding of the universe, but also for making our economy more competitive. You only need to look at some of our own major local economic engines, such as Aerojet Rocketdyne, to see how NASA and its private partners help drive innovation in our economy.

During a meeting with NASA experts in Washington to learn about some of the latest technologies that are paving the way for a human mission to Mars.

I was also recently selected as the Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

I’m honored that my colleagues unanimously put their confidence in me to serve in this new position. I’m energized to continue advancing the role America plays in ensuring stability and security in our complex global landscape.

With my colleagues in the Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Republican Chairman Ed Royce from California.

When it comes to America’s security and global leaderships, both Republicans and Democrats have an obligation to put the interests of our nation and people first, ahead of partisan politics.

Connecting With You:

Over the past several days I’ve been privileged to meet with a variety of folks from Sacramento County and California. It’s been great to connect with area doctors, advocates, business leaders, and families from all over our community.

Pleasure meeting with Nadia from Fair Oaks. As a doctor, I was glad to hear her personal story on why medical research is so important. We even found out that we share the same birthday on March 2!

Having the chance to meet and hear from you is core to my job. Knowing your thoughts and priorities only helps me be a better representative and bring your voice to Washington.

I’m always looking for ways to stay connected with you – whether I’m in Washington or back at home. I hope you as well will never hesitate to reach out.

Help for Taxpayers:

Tax season is right around the corner! This year’s filing deadline is April 18th, 2017.

I know this can be a stressful time for many folks in Sacramento County. That’s why my office has created a new Help for Taxpayers webpage. Visit to get answers to frequent questions and to learn more about helpful resources, many of which are free.

Please click here to visit my Help for Taxpayers web page to get help.

In addition, my office is hosting a Tax Assistance Workshop to help local taxpayers on Saturday, March 18th.

We’re holding our workshop in conjunction with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). According to the IRS, VITA provides free tax help generally to people who earn $54,000 a year or less.

It is an honor and privilege to serve you in Congress. Listening to you is my most important job, so please always feel free to contact me.

Ami Bera, M.D.
