Email update: Responding to the Outrageous EpiPen Price Spike & More
I sent an email update on Thursday on how I'm working to address the spike in EpiPen prices and more. Join my email updates now so you don't miss any in the future!
No one should have to choose between buying life-saving medicines or paying their bills. See how I’m responding to the EpiPen price spike and more in my new update:
Responding to the Outrageous EpiPen Price Spike:
As you may know, drug manufacturer Mylan recently increased the price of EpiPens to more than $600 for a single prescription.
EpiPens are a life-saving treatment for emergency allergic attacks. But with a virtual monopoly, this huge price spike could place some families in difficult situations. Mylan must be held accountable for their pricing on a life-saving drug.
That’s why I’m calling on the Food and Drug Administration to take action in response to this price spike.
As a doctor, I’ve cared for many patients who struggled to pay high medical bills. Health care simply costs too much. We keep paying more and more for health care while we keep getting less and less.
For some families, medical bills from a broken ankle or an illness can force them to miss a car payment, or not save for their children’s college education, or even worse. We need to address rising health care costs that threaten the financial security of too many families.

Supporting Sacramento County Agriculture and our Farm-to-Fork Movement
As a doctor and a dad, I know that ensuring our kids and families have access to healthy, fresh food is critical to their health and success.
Thankfully, our region sits at the heart of one of the most vibrant agricultural areas in the world. Our region is nicknamed the Farm-to-Fork Capital – helping area farmers bring their locally grown foods to nearby restaurants and kitchens.
Agriculture is also a cornerstone of our local economy. In fact, according to the Sacramento County Agricultural Commissioner, our area had nearly $500 million in crop production value in 2014 alone.
That’s why I recently held a Farm-to-Fork tour of our area. This was a chance to hear from area agricultural producers and families to see first-hand how Congress can keep our agriculture economy going.
We should do whatever we can to support this innovation and the growth in Sacramento County agriculture.
That’s why, for instance, I opposed a reckless amendment that sought to eliminate the Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program. This initiative supports the growth of area farmers and locally grown foods by providing training, technical help, and marketing assistance.
