Email update: Special report on jobs
I sent an email update on Saturday with a special report on how I'm working to help grow Sacramento County's economy. Join my e-mail updates now so you don't miss any in the future!

Creating jobs and building an economy that works for middle class families are my top priorities in Congress. Here's a special report on what I’m doing to grow our economy.
Though our region is slowly regaining jobs, our work is far from over. That’s why I regularly visit and listen to Sacramento County businesses, both large and small, so we can work together to create jobs.
Just this week I was pleased to visit Aerojet Rocketdyne, which is our congressional district’s largest employer and the world’s leading manufacturer of rocket engines.
I was privileged to meet with their executive leadership team and have the opportunity to tour their facilities. I ended my visit with an employee town hall, where I answered questions and shared what I’m doing in Congress to advocate for great American manufacturing companies like those at Aerojet Rocketdyne.
Investing in education – especially Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education (or STEM for short) – is a priority we both strongly share. We have to ensure that our students are ready for the jobs of the 21st century.
That’s why I’m working in the Science and Technology Committee to promote STEM education, and why I’m supporting legislation to make STEM education a national priority.
I was also honored to visit the Rail Systems Division of Siemens this week, which is headquartered in Florin. They design, engineer, and manufacture light rail vehicles, streetcars, and electric locomotives for all of North America, and it was great to see some Made in America products at their facility.
During my tour I was able to see their state-of-the-art locomotive being assembled for Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. These are high-performance, 125 mile per hour, diesel-electric locomotives, and are being built with funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
I was proud to help advocate for this project with the Transportation Department, which was a huge win for Sacramento County. It is helping to create jobs right here at home, and rebuild a more efficient infrastructure.
Finally, I was pleased to recently welcome the Administrator of the Small Business Administration to Sacramento County, Maria Contreras-Sweet.
We were able to tour and speak with some of our incredible small businesses, and hear firsthand the essential work they do day in and out that drives our economy and creates jobs. It was a good opportunity to make sure that local small businesses in our area get the resources and services they need.
Helping small businesses grow in our area is critical for our economy and supporting a strong middle class.
That’s why I helped secure funding to assist small businesses in our area so they could pursue federal government contracts. The federal government procures numerous contracts each year, and we need to ensure that our small businesses have a fair opportunity to compete for them.
In addition, my office has also been hosting workshops for small business owners to connect them with resources they can use to grow and hire.
We’re hosting another workshop on September 24th, which will focus on how businesses can use free public data from the U.S. Census Bureau to better understand competitive forces within their industries, and there will also be a panel on government contracting. If you or someone you know is interested in attending, you can click here to learn more and to RSVP.
Please feel free to visit my website to learn more about how I’m working grow our economy.
And as always, I appreciate hearing from you.
Be well,
