On Friday, I sent along this e-mail update to share how I have been working for you. Don't miss out on future updates - join e-newsletter today if you haven't already! Democracy works best when we stay in touch.
From my family to yours, I hope you had a safe and fun Halloween. My daughter Syd got dressed up as a firefighter and our entire family had fun reconnecting with friends and neighbors. Now with all of the "spookiness" behind us, I wanted to pass along some brief updates on how I have been working for you.
Introduced New Bipartisan Bill to Make Health Care More Affordable
As a doctor and now as your Congressman, I am committed to doing all I can to lower skyrocketing health care costs for middle class families.
That's why I introduced a new bipartisan bill this week - the Small Business and Family Relief Act - to make health care more affordable for working families, small businesses, and seniors.
My new bill would delay a new Affordable Care Act health insurance tax for two years, allowing health insurance markets time to stabilize while providing immediate relief to middle class Americans.
This health insurance tax makes providing health benefits to employees more expensive and hinders job growth. It disproportionately impacts small businesses, and is expected to cost the typical family an additional $660.
Delaying the tax will bring immediate relief to businesses and families while health insurance markets adjust.
I am pleased to have introduced this common sense, bipartisan bill with my Republican colleague and fellow doctor, Rep. Charles Boustany, and that our bill has earned the support of leading by business groups such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
We need to work together to fix problematic areas of the Affordable Care Act and make it work better for the American people. We should reform our health care system so it is built on cooperation with the private sector, and improve on what we already have to make it better.

U.S. Military Academy Application Deadline: Thursday, November 7th
Every year, I am privileged to make nominations to our nation's service academies, including West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy.
Our nation's service academies are some of the top universities in the country. They provide high quality education and also prepare our young people for leadership roles in our nation's armed forces.
It's an honor to have the opportunity to nominate qualified Sacramento County students for these prestigious schools.
My staff and I hosted a Service Academy Nomination Day in September to connect local high school students with information on applying for our nation's service academies.
The deadline to apply is now approaching fast - all service academy applications must be turned in to my office by Thursday, November 7th. All applicants must turn in their application and all other needed documents to qualify.
Feel free to forward this email to any friends or family who may be interested, or contact my local office at (916) 635 0505 to ask any questions.
You may also click here to visit my Frequently Asked Questions page on the application process for more information. You can click here to apply now.
