Supporting our Veterans
I sent along this e-mail update on Veterans Day to share how I have been working for you. Don't miss out on future updates - join e-newsletter today if you haven't already! Democracy works best when we stay in touch.
On this Veterans Day, I want to thank Sacramento County veterans for their service to our country. As a doctor who has worked in the VA system with World War II, Korean, and Vietnam veterans, I believe supporting the men and women who have served our country must be a top priority.
I'm fighting to make government work for our vets. It’s unacceptable that so many veterans struggle to find good-paying jobs while others can’t get the benefits they have earned.
This Summer I met with veterans at my office’s Veteran’s Summit, where my staff and I connected Sacramento County veterans with resources and services such as employment training and health care.
Our veterans deserve nothing less than our full support. That’s why my Rancho Cordova office specializes in helping local veterans.
We’ve already helped local veterans recover over half a million dollars in back payments owed to them by the VA.
And In Congress, I am supporting legislation to help veterans find jobs and end inexcusable backlogs at the VA.
For example, I introduced a new bipartisan bill – the 21st Century Health Care for Heroes Act – to merge electronic health records at the Defense Department with the VA, helping to cut through the VA backlog and saving taxpayer money.
Congress needs put politics aside when it comes to supporting our returning heroes. Our veterans have served us, now we must serve them.
I look forward to reviewing your responses.
