Race in Sacramento to benefit Children's Miracle Network hospitals

Congressman  Ami Bera, M.D. will serve as the official starter for the third annual Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run, taking place Sunday, April 6 in downtown Sacramento. The event benefits Children's Miracle Network hospitals in California and Nevada.

Bera and his wife Janine will also run in the race, which starts and finishes in front of the state capitol building. The event will take place the same day as the 42nd Annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten-Mile Run in Washington D.C. It is part of the Credit Union Miracle Day "Family of Races."

Bera is a long-time supporter of the Children’s Miracle Network, donating half the pay he earned during last year’s government shutdown to the U.C. Davis Children’s Hospital, a local hospital that’s part of the Children’s Miracle Network. He also worked as an associate dean of admissions for U.C. Davis Medical School.

“I’m honored to take part in this great event to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network,” said Bera. “They provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids across the country and I’m proud to support them.”

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is an alliance of premier children's hospitals across North America which treats 17 million critically ill children annually' regardless of their ability to pay. More than 1,100 racers, including 441 credit union employees and members, are scheduled to participate in the race.

California and Nevada credit unions have raised more than $115,000 so far this year for the Children’s Miracle Network. Major sponsors include California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, CO-OP Financial Services (Rancho Cucamonga, CA); The Golden 1 Credit Union (Sacramento); Patelco Credit Union (Pleasanton, CA); San Francisco Fire Credit Union; San Mateo Credit Union (Redwood City, CA); SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union (Santa Ana, CA); Travis Credit Union (Vacaville, CA); Wescom Credit Union (Pasadena, CA); and CU Direct Corporation (Ontario, CA).

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He’s fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country’s debt in a responsible way. One of Bera’s first acts in Congress was to help lead the effort to pass the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if members of Congress don’t pass a budget, they don’t get paid. As a leader of the No Labels' Problem Solvers, he’s working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation’s challenges. He and his wife Janine live in Elk Grove with their daughter Sydra. For more updates on Rep. Bera follow @RepBera on Twitter, like Congressman Bera on Facebook, or visit https://www.bera.house.gov.
