Congressman Bera returns from congressional trip to Israel
Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. returns today from a congressional delegation visit to Israel. The trip, which included meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian chief negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat as well as visits to military sites such the Iron Dome air defense system, offered a balanced insight into the region while highlighting the strategic partnership between Israel and the United States.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit Israel during this important time,” said Congressman Bera. “Ensuring the security of our friends in Israel is vital to maintaining stability in the Middle East and promoting democracy throughout the world. Seeing firsthand our shared values and visions for a peaceful future in the Middle East reaffirms my hope that a lasting peace can be found. I applaud the commitment from all sides, including Secretary Kerry, for taking up such a daunting but necessary task.”
The weeklong trip also included visits to the Gaza border, the Golan Heights, and various religious and cultural sites. As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Congressman Bera is working to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
