Rep. Bera Helps Pass Historic Anti-Corruption and Voting Rights Reform

Legislation will help make government work better for Sacramento County

Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA) today voted to pass the For the People Act (H.R. 1), transformative legislation to clean up corruption in Washington, protect and expand voting rights, and put the needs and priorities of Sacramento County residents ahead of special interests and lobbyists.

"My constituents sent me to Congress to make government work for Sacramento County, not special interests and dark money," said Representative Bera. "That's why I voted today to pass the For the People Act, bold legislation that will stamp out corruption in our politics, restore integrity and accountability to our government, and return power back to the American people. Protecting and strengthening our democracy should not be a Democrat or Republican issue, but an American priority. I will always fight to ensure our democracy works for everyone."

Key provisions of the For the People Act include:

  • Enforcing ethics and conflict of interest rules for all government officials;
  • Protecting elections from foreign interference;
  • Expanding automatic voter registration and same day registration; and
  • Strengthening access to vote by mail and early voting options.
