Internships

Congressman Bera offers two internship programs based in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento in the summer, fall, and spring for full-time and part-time internships.

Interns based in Washington, D.C. will answer constituent phone calls, track constituent opinions on policy issues, research legislation and policy issues for Congressman Bera and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, draft social media posts and constituent correspondence, conduct tours of the Capitol, and perform administrative duties as needed. The Washington, D.C. internship program hosts undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates.

Interns based in Sacramento will answer constituent phone calls, track constituent opinions on policy issues, assist with casework intake, draft memos and constituent correspondence on community events for Congressman Bera and the field staff, attend community events, and perform administrative duties as needed.  The Sacramento internship program undergraduates and recent graduates year-round, as well as high-schoolers during the summer.

Congressman Bera’s internship program is a unique opportunity to learn about the legislative branch and how a congressional office functions in both Washington, D.C. and the district, as well as how to address the distinct needs of California’s 6th Congressional District. This program also allows interns the opportunity to network within their fields, build their professional skills, explore issue areas of interest, and immerse themselves in the Washington, D.C. and Sacramento communities.

Start/end dates as well as hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules. Washington, D.C. hours generally run from 9:00am to 6:00pm while in session and 9:00am to 5:00pm while out of session. Sacramento hours generally run from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
