We offer two internship programs, one in Washington, DC and another in our local district office in Sacramento County. Interns on Capitol Hill will have the opportunity to see how legislation is created while interns in the district see how that legislation directly affects people. The programs are open to high school and college students, as well as recent graduates who demonstrate an interest in public policy and community service.
Both internship programs run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters. Although internships in all offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Intern duties include, but are not limited to, answering phone calls, attending briefings and hearings, conducting tours of the Capitol building, researching legislation and drafting memos for the Congressman, constituent correspondence, and various day-to-day office tasks. Applicants should possess excellent written and oral communication, and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. The deadline to apply for Winter/Spring internships is November 23rd, 2022.
