Invite: Cash for College Workshops

My office is partnering with the Sacramento CAL-SOAP Consortium to hold Cash for College Workshops this fall. Families can get free, in-person help from trained volunteers on financial aid opportunities and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Hard working Americans should have a fair shot at the American dream. But today, the rising cost of college is making that dream harder and harder to achieve.

That's why my office is partnering with the Sacramento CAL-SOAP Consortium to hold Cash for College Workshops this fall. Families can get free, in-person help from trained volunteers on financial aid opportunities and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Documents you should bring:

  • Student and parent (if applicable) Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID):
    • Create an FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov
    • Both student and parent needs one
    • Not necessary for Dream Act applicants
  • Student's Social Security card and driver's license (or government-issued ID), if available
  • Parent's Social Security card (if available)
  • Parent's federal income tax return from tax year 2017
  • Records of untaxed income such as child support, TANF, interest income, veterans non-education benefits, Social Security benefits
  • Student's 2017 federal income tax return, or evidence of income earned (W-2 form or pay records)
  • Bank account records or statements
  • Records of stocks, bonds or investments
  • Business records
  • If not a US citizen, bring alien registration card (if available)
  • A list of the colleges you are interested in
