Shutdown update:

I sent an email update on Friday, January 11th, 2019 about the government shutdown. Please join my email updates now so you don't miss any in the future!

Hi [Firstname] –

As you may know, the federal government has been partially shutdown for 20 days.

This shutdown is irresponsible and was completely avoidable. Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are now working without pay, others have been furloughed, and important agencies like the Department of Homeland Security are being impacted.

As your Congressman, I want to hear from you. Are you being harmed by the government shutdown? Has your family's plans changed? Please click here and share your story with me.

We can't keep governing from crisis to crisis. We must open the government before more people are hurt. That's why the new House Majority passed bipartisan legislation to reopen our government. This legislation includes funding for border security. The Senate should vote on this legislation immediately.

Keeping the government shutdown over a physical wall is wrong. The President repeatedly promised that Mexico would pay for the wall. Experts agree that a wall is ineffective. We need real solutions like comprehensive immigration reform, not political gimmicks. Both parties can agree on border security, but prolonging a government shutdown for political purposes is wrong. It hurts real Americans trying to make ends meet. This is yet another crisis of President Trump's own doing.

If you're being impacted, I want to hear from you.

And as always, my staff and I are here to help any way we can. Please feel free to call us at (916) 635-0505 or visit bera.house.gov/gethelp to learn more.

Be well,

Ami Bera, M.D.
