Bera comments on Obama announcement to allow Americans to keep the insurance they have now through 2014

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. offered the following statement on President Obama's announcement that Americans whose health insurance plans were slated to be cancelled can keep the same insurance coverage through 2014:

"We need to work together to fix the parts of the Affordable Care Act that aren't working for the American people. I've heard from many Sacramento County families whose insurance policies are being cancelled and who are facing increased out-of-pocket costs. I'm glad President Obama is open to fixing the ACA, and announced that these Americans will be able to keep the coverage they have now through 2014. If people have insurance that works for their families, they should be able to keep it.

We must continue to work to improve the ACA. As a doctor with experience lowering health care costs, I'm working on ways to reduce the cost of care for middle class families. One way we can do that is through my bill, the Small Business and Family Relief Act, which would delay the collection of the health insurance tax until 2016, providing immediate relief to working families, small businesses and seniors."

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He's fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country's debt in a responsible way. One of Bera's first acts in Congress was to help lead the effort to pass the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if members of Congress don't pass a budget, they don't get paid. As a co-chair of No Labels' Problem Solvers, he's working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation's challenges. He and his wife Janine live in Elk Grove with their daughter Sydra. For more updates on Rep. Bera follow @RepBera on Twitter, like Congressman Bera on Facebook, or visit https://www.bera.house.gov.
