Bera emphasizes importance of India-U.S. relationship at hearing in advance of Modi visit

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. participated in a House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific hearing yesterday to examine the future of the U.S.-India relationship. Officials from the State Department and the Department of Commerce testified at the hearing entitled, "U.S. India Relations Under the Modi Government." Bera offered the following comment:

"As an Indian-American, I am proud that the Indian diaspora has made many remarkable accomplishments in the United States. Especially notable is India's foreign direct investment, which has resulted in more than 100,000 jobs in the United States. I strongly believe that the US-India relationship can be the defining relationship of the 21st century. We need to further promote bilateral trade, which will ultimately lead to more jobs in both countries. I look forward to Prime Minister Modi's upcoming visit to the U.S. to reinvigorate our ties with a natural friend and partner."
