Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. statement on President Obama's ISIS speech

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. made the following statement on President Obama's ISIS speech:

"One of my most important responsibilities as a member of Congress is to make sure that we keep Americans safe here at home and protect our interests abroad. There is no doubt that ISIS is a serious threat that has shown no regard for human life, and the President laid out clear objectives to protect America and American interests in his speech tonight. However, many important questions still remain. In the days ahead I look forward to being more fully briefed on the plan to deal with the situation in Iraq and Syria and to questioning Secretary Kerry at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing. The President should continue to consult Congress on this very important issue. The American people deserve nothing less than a thorough and thoughtful debate."

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He's fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country's debt in a responsible way. One of Bera's first acts in Congress was to help lead the effort to pass the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if members of Congress don't pass a budget, they don't get paid. As a leader of the No Labels' Problem Solvers, he's working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation's challenges. He and his wife Janine live in Elk Grove with their daughter Sydra. For more updates on Rep. Bera follow @RepBera on Twitter, likeCongressman Bera on Facebook, or visit https://www.bera.house.gov.
