Congressman Ami Bera (D-CA) released the following statement announcing his support for the Keep Families Together Act:

"Today I join many of my colleagues to introduce the Keep Families Together Act, a bill that would stop the Trump administration from separating undocumented children from their families. The administration's new policy is unnecessarily cruel and does not align with the values we hold as a country. This bill would prevent the Department of Homeland Security from separating undocumented children from their parents, except under extraordinary circumstances. It would also require Homeland Security to develop a plan that allows separated parents and children to locate each other and reunite.

"The Keep Families Together Act is consistent with our American values. The American people deserve a full debate on comprehensive immigration reform, but that conversation cannot take place while children are being mistreated along our border. I call on the Trump administration to immediately reverse this heartless policy and call on every Democrat and Republican to work together and support this urgently needed legislation."
