Press Release
Statement from Congressman Ami Bera on H. Res. 990:
Washington, DC,
July 18, 2018
"Today I voted in favor of a resolution supporting the employees and mission of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "However, this vote was a reluctant yes. While Immigration and Customs Enforcement helps us combat human trafficking, intercept drugs, and secure our immigration process, this resolution was a partisan gimmick. It does nothing to address the underlying issues of our broken immigration system. "Today's vote is in no way an endorsement of the Trump administration's policies of separating children from their families or mass deportations without due process. Those policies are wrong, completely unnecessary, and undercut our values as Americans. That's why I am a strong supporter of the Keep Families Together Act. "Washington political games won't solve these tough issues. We need to roll up our sleeves, come together as Democrats and Republicans, and actually address our broken immigration system in a meaningful way. The American people deserve a full debate on comprehensive immigration reform. Congress needs to stop stalling with political games and get to work." ### |
