Today, Rep. Ami Bera (CA-D) joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, which amends the Civil Rights Act to guarantee anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ Americans.

"I'm proud to stand with my colleagues and pass the Equality Act," says Rep. Bera. "In 30 states, there are no explicit laws barring discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identification. The Equality Act creates a nationwide federal standard of civil rights protections for LGBTQ Americans. No one should lose their job or housing because of who they are and who they love. Every American deserves to be treated equally under the law."
