Bera Issues Statement on Individual Being Treated for Novel Coronavirus at UC Davis Medical Center

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-07), former Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County, released the following statement after public health officials confirmed that an individual is being treated for COVID-19 at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento County. This is the first known case in the U.S. of a person getting the virus without foreign travel or close contact with a known infected individual.

"My office is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to work with federal, state, and local governments to ensure Sacramento County receives all the necessary resources to keep our communities safe and prepared," said Rep. Ami Bera, who also served as clinical professor of medicine and associate dean for admissions at the University of California, Davis. "As a doctor, I know we must take every necessary step to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our communities."

Congressman Bera is chairing a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing today on the coronavirus, which will include testimony from the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
