The House Foreign Affairs Committee today unanimously voted in committee markup to pass Rep. Ami Bera's (D-CA) resolution recognizing the 70^th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War and the enduring alliance between the United States and the Republic of Korea.

"Seventy years after the start of the Korean War, the alliance between the United States and South Korea has transformed from a security relationship into a comprehensive global partnership," said Rep. Bera, who serves as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation. "Our two countries share a steadfast commitment to peace and prosperity that is anchored in our deep and enduring people-to-people bonds. I'm proud to lead the Foreign Affairs Committee in reaffirming our bipartisan support for the United States-South Korea alliance and I look forward to 70 more years of strong partnership between our two great countries."

Rep. Bera serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional Korea Caucus and the Congressional Study Group on Korea, and has been a strong advocate for the U.S.-South Korea alliance. He led a delegation trip to South Korea in April 2019 where delegations members met with Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-what, Defense Minister Jeong Kyeongdoo, the Speaker and Members of the National Assembly, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Harry Harris, civil society leaders, representatives from leading Korean businesses, and local university students.
