Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA) last week introduced H.R. 1796, the Health Care Enrollment Innovation Act, legislation that will help states experiment with innovative ways to expand health insurance coverage for more Americans. "As a doctor, I know access to quality and affordable health care is essential to families across the country. But for far too many families, navigating health care can be burdensome and overwhelming. As health care continues to rapidly change, we must use new ideas to get more Americans the health care they need and deserve," said Representative Bera. "The Health Care Enrollment Innovation Act will give states tools to experiment with new ways to get more Americans enrolled in health insurance coverage. This commonsense legislation would help innovative states develop strategies any state could adopt, reducing burdens on Americans looking for health care coverage and lowering costs for all as more people are enrolled." The Health Care Enrollment Innovation Act directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award $200,000,000 in grants to eligible State agencies to promote state innovations to expand health insurance coverage.
