Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-07) announced that he secured $1.2 million for three Sacramento County community recreation projects. Funding for these projects were included in the House Labor-HHS and Transportation-HUD Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations bills, which passed the House of Representatives today. "The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the physical and mental health benefits associated with community activities and outdoor recreation. That's why I'm proud to have secured $1.2 million for three Sacramento County community recreation projects in the FY 2022 House Appropriations bills," said Representative Bera. "If signed into law, these resources would support the creation of the first-ever youth center in Rancho Cordova, help with renovations and accessibility upgrades to the Fair Oaks Community Clubhouse, and would support the construction of the final phase of the Tillotson Parkway trail." The following projects championed by Rep. Bera were included in the House Labor-HHS and Transportation-HUD Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations bills: Project Sponsor: City of Rancho Cordova Project Name: Rancho Cordova Youth Center Project Location: 10455 Investment Circle, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 Funding Amount: $350,000 Explanation: The Rancho Cordova Youth Center will be the first Youth Center within the community, and this funding will assist in the start-up costs and programming development, including staffing, computer lab equipment, art supplies, books, and sports equipment. After-school programming provides a safe and supportive environment for children and youth and the Youth Center will focus its activities on promoting equity and inclusion, mentorship, academic support and sports. The programming will be developed and overseen through a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Sacramento and the City of Rancho Cordova. Project Sponsor: Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District Project Name: Fair Oaks Community Clubhouse Facility Renovation Project Location: 7997 California Ave, Fair Oaks, CA 95628 Funding Amount: $560,929 Explanation: The funding would be used to renovate the Fair Oaks Community Clubhouse which serves as an important gathering place for the community and would make it accessible for all ages. In particular, the funds would support accessibility upgrades for the clubhouse by building a new ADA-accessible ramp for the main entry of the facility and installing a new lift for the facilities stage. Project Sponsor: Southgate Recreation & Park District Project Name: Tillotson Parkway Extension Project Location: Kingsbridge Drive, Sacramento, CA 95829 Funding Amount: $320,000 Explanation: This funding would finalize improvement plans and construct the final undeveloped trail connection of the 4.5-mile off-street multi-use Tillotson Parkway in south Sacramento County. The Tillotson Parkway Extension project would close a gap in bike and pedestrian infrastructure and the entire Tillotson Parkway will connect communities, promote an active and healthy lifestyle, and provide safe routes to eight parks and six schools in the area. The House Labor-HHS and Transportation-HUD Appropriations bills now head to the Senate for consideration. In total, Rep. Bera secured more than $2.5 million to support eight community funding projects for the Sacramento-region in the House passage of FY 2022 appropriations bills. |
