WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a bill to keep the government open for 45 days:

“Today’s action to keep the government open is a win for the American people and averts the incredibly harmful effects of a government shutdown. Let’s be clear though, this disaster was only averted after Democrats in the House of Representatives held the line against dangerous cuts to our budget and overwhelmingly supported a last minute funding bill that eventually passed with the support of more Democrats than Republicans. 

“Bipartisanship is a winning strategy. 

“The U.S. House cannot pass critical and common-sense legislation while negotiating with the most extreme voices of the far right. I urge Speaker McCarthy to continue embracing the voices of his Democratic House colleagues in order to fully fund our government and do what is best for the American people.”
