Rep. Ami Bera Releases Statement on the Passage of Continuing Resolution to Avert Government Shutdown

U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) today released the following statement after voting with a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives to avert a partial government shutdown and fund the government until March 1 and 8:

“This afternoon, I voted for the latest bipartisan continuing resolution to keep the government open. While this legislation is necessary to keep the government functioning, governing from crisis to crisis is no way to run the government.

“In May, I joined a broad bipartisan majority in voting for the Bipartisan Budget Agreement to establish top-line spending numbers and prevent harmful funding cuts for critical priorities from education and health care to housing and transportation.

“Instead of fulfilling their commitment, House Republicans have failed to uphold their end of the bargain. Speaker Johnson continues to put our nation through cycles of uncertainty and chaos by trying to placate the far-right voices within his caucus.

“Moving forward, I will continue urging bipartisan cooperation to pass a comprehensive, long-term government funding bill in line with the Bipartisan Budget Agreement. Additionally, I stand ready to fulfill President Biden’s supplemental funding request to provide critical security and humanitarian aid in support of Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza and funding to address our broken immigration system.

“It is crucial that we work together to ensure stable and responsible governance that prioritizes the needs of the American people.”
