Honoring Our Veterans

On this Veterans Day, I want to say thank you to our Sacramento County's veterans. Our veterans have made incredible sacrifices for our country, and we owe them nothing less than our unwavering support.

I'm proud that my office has helped recover more than $2.6 million in benefits and services for veterans. We've helped over 3,000 local service members and veterans with backlogged benefits, health care, and other federal government problems. This is the least we can to support our service members and their families.

Today, I want to share the story of a Sacramento County veteran named Bill.

Bill, an Army and Navy veteran, was awarded a purple heart and honorably served our nation in the military for 21 years. Bill choose to settle in Fair Oaks.

Bill, a Fair Oaks Veteran

Bill was finding it difficult to make payments on his home and make ends meet because of his service-related disability. After repeatedly following up with the VA to change his disability rating and to get the assistance he had earned, Bill still wasn't receiving a response to his claim.

Then Bill contacted my office. My office worked with him and followed up with the VA to get him the answers that he needed. We were able to help him change his disability rating so he could get help, allowing him to stay in his home and stay connected with his fellow veterans.

As a doctor who has worked in the VA system with World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans, and seen their sacrifices first-hand, supporting the men and women who bravely serve in our armed forces is one of my top priorities.
