Press Release

Bera applauds passage of bipartisan funding bill

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill today to fund the government through September 2014. Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. offered the following comment:

"Today's passage of the bipartisan funding bill is a positive step for our economy and our country. While it's not perfect, it does roll back the reckless across-the-board spending cuts enacted last year, while reducing our long-term spending in a more responsible way, and providing some stability to Sacramento families and businesses. It also funds investments of particular importance to our region that I've been fighting for, like fire and police services that keep Sacramento County families safe, education programs that prepare our children for the 21st century economy, and upgrades to the Folsom Dam that are reducing the risk of floods in Sacramento County, and creating jobs."

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He's fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country's debt in a responsible way. One of Bera's first acts in Congress was to help lead the effort to pass the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if members of Congress don't pass a budget, they don't get paid. As a co-chair of No Labels' Problem Solvers, he's working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation's challenges. He and his wife Janine live in Elk Grove with their daughter Sydra. For more updates on Rep. Bera follow @RepBera on Twitter, like Congressman Bera on Facebook, or visit https://www.bera.house.gov.
