Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. joined Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, local chefs and other local representatives at Soil Born Farms today to announce a unique partnership with the Kings and Legends Hospitality. "The Sacramento area is one of the most productive agriculture regions in the world and agriculture helps form the backbone of our local economy," said Bera. "This exciting new partnership between the Sacramento Kings and Legends Hospitality will create new jobs in our region, showcase one of our area's greatest assets, and ensure healthy food options are available at the new arena. It's a big win for everybody and I'm proud to be a part of today's celebration." Soil Born Farms is a nationally recognized center for the promotion of urban agriculture, sustainable food systems and healthy food education. The event was held at Soil Born's historic American River Ranch in Rancho Cordova, one of the last working farms on the lower American River and the permanent home of Soil Born Farms Urban Agriculture and Education Project. Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He's fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country's debt in a responsible way. One of Bera's first acts in Congress was to help lead the effort to pass the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if members of Congress don't pass a budget, they don't get paid. As a leader of the No Labels' Problem Solvers, he's working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation's challenges. He and his wife Janine live in Elk Grove with their daughter Sydra. For more updates on Rep. Bera follow @RepBera on Twitter, like Congressman Bera on Facebook, or visit https://www.bera.house.gov. |
