Reps. Bera and Kim Introduce Resolution Calling for Safe, Timely, and Sufficient Delivery of Humanitarian Aid to Civilians in Gaza Strip

U.S. Representatives Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA) and Andy Kim (D-NJ) today introduced a resolution calling for the safe, timely, and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

“Hamas’ horrific terrorist attack on October 7th has resulted in the tragic loss of life and the displacement of millions of civilians. I am deeply saddened when I hear from my constituents who have experienced the loss of loved ones in this conflict,” said Representative Ami Bera, M.D. “As a doctor, I know we must address the need for humanitarian aid in Gaza. That is why I am leading this resolution urging the Biden Administration and the international community to facilitate the prompt delivery of life-saving water, food, medicine, and fuel to humanitarian organizations in Gaza.”

“We must do as much as we can to protect civilian lives in harms way. In Gaza, the crisis demands much more in delivering life saving humanitarian assistance,” said Representative Andy Kim. “Families have been torn apart by this war, and many are going without food, clean water, and medical care. Doing all we can to save lives is vital now and is necessary to keep up the hope and prospects for an eventual durable peace and security that families across Israel and Palestine deserve.”

The resolution specifically calls for the Biden Administration to help facilitate:

  • The scale up of safe and continuous flow of aid convoys to reach civilians with life-saving assistance in Gaza;
  • The ability for humanitarian organizations to deliver aid in Gaza without impediment or interference;
  • The distribution of fuel to humanitarian organizations working in Gaza;
  • Proper oversight to ensure aid is appropriately delivered; and
  • The renewal of a humanitarian pause to facilitate a surge in humanitarian aid and the release of additional hostages
