Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released a statement after the Sacramento Area Council of Governments’ (SACOG) was awarded a $22,500,000 Regional Partnerships Challenge grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Neighborhood Access and Equity (NAE) Grant Program. 

This funding will support SACOG’s Green Means Go program, a multi-year initiative aiming to lower greenhouse gas emissions and improve transportation mobility in the greater Sacramento region. Through investments in community redevelopment and removal of transportation barriers in historically underserved areas, this planning grant funding will further several key regional transportation, housing, and climate priorities while also stimulating economic development and improving quality of life in the greater Sacramento region.

“I was proud to work alongside Reps. Doris Matsui (CA-07) and Mike Thompson (CA-04) to secure this vital funding to invest in historically underserved communities across our region while tackling the climate crisis and promoting sustainable development.

“I will continue working closely with community partners to ensure these projects are implemented in a timely, efficient, and equitable manner.” 

SACOG will also partner with Valley Vision – a regional workforce development stakeholder – to coordinate with the participating jurisdictions to establish career pathways for vulnerable community members into jobs that will be created during the implementation of the projects planned with DOT NAE grant funds.

The project will advance 10 green zone projects in federally designated underserved communities within the Greater Sacramento region including 4 projects located in Congressman Bera’s district that will support neighborhoods in Citrus Heights, City of Sacramento, North Highlands, and Rancho Cordova.
