ICYMI: Rep. Bera Joins Sacramento County Supervisor Rich Desmond to Present National Day of Play Resolution

Thursday, January 29, 2026

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA — On Tuesday, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) joined Sacramento County Supervisor Rich Desmond (District 3) at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors meeting to help present Supervisor Desmond’s National Day of Play resolution.

National Day of Play is a community-driven effort to encourage device-free, outdoor activities that foster social connection, improve public health, and strengthen neighborhoods. The resolution recognizes Saturday, March 21, 2026, as National Day of Play.

“National Day of Play is a bright spot at a time when so much of what we’re seeing across the country feels heavy and discouraging,” said Representative Bera. “This initiative is about tackling the growing epidemic of social isolation and encouraging our kids and all of us to put down our phones, get outside, and connect with one another. I’m grateful to Supervisor Desmond for leading this effort in Sacramento County and look forward to introducing a bipartisan National Day of Play resolution in Congress.”

“With so much weighing on us, it’s important to step back and focus on what brings us together and makes us healthy,” said Supervisor Desmond. “National Day of Play encourages us to disconnect from screens, get outside, and enjoy our parks. I hope people here at home and across the country will unplug, participate in local events that build connection and promote overall well-being. I’m thankful for Congressman Bera’s leadership on this nationwide initiative, and I’m proud to help bring it forward here in Sacramento County.”

Representative Bera plans to introduce a companion National Day of Play resolution in the House of Representatives when Congress returns to session.
