Rep. Ami Bera Condemns President Trump’s Unilateral Deployment of National Guard to Los Angeles

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s unilateral deployment of the California National Guard to Los Angeles without the consent of Governor Gavin Newsom:

“President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles without Governor Newsom’s consent is a dangerous escalation.

“Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass have made it clear: there is no unmet need. This is not about restoring order. It is about the Administration seeking to inflame tensions and provoke violence from protesters to justify further crackdowns.

“We must not give them that excuse.

“I urge protesters to remain peaceful and law enforcement to exercise restraint. The right to peacefully protest is fundamental and it must be protected.”
