WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement in response to the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, which comes just days after President Trump demanded the Department of Justice prosecute his political opponents:

“President Trump has made no secret of his desire for vengeance against his political rivals. The indictment of James Comey is a disturbing escalation that follows a clear pattern: firing independent prosecutors, replacing them with loyalists, and pushing for trumped-up charges. This is not how the justice system is supposed to work in our nation.”
