Rep. Bera Marks Two Years Since October 7 Attack on Israel
SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, Representative Ami Bera (CA-06) issued the following statement marking two years since the October 7th terror attack on Israel:
“Two years ago today, Hamas terrorists carried out a brutal and unconscionable attack on Israel, murdering nearly 1,200 innocent people — including 46 Americans — and taking hundreds hostage. That day’s horror and trauma still reverberate for Israelis, Jewish communities around the world, and all who believe in peace and human dignity.
“As we remember those lost, we must also recognize the profound suffering that this war has inflicted — particularly on the Palestinian people in Gaza. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, and nearly the entire population has been displaced, with families forced from their homes and communities destroyed. The humanitarian toll has been immense, and the people of Gaza deserve the chance to live in safety and dignity, free from both the terror of Hamas and the devastation of war.
“After two years of devastating conflict, we are finally seeing a path forward. The deal now on the table — backed by nearly all Arab nations, the United States, and Israel — would end the fighting, return all remaining hostages, and allow for a massive surge of humanitarian aid into Gaza. I urge all parties to seize this opportunity and call on Hamas to fully accept the deal. This agreement represents the best chance to end the bloodshed and begin the hard but necessary work of rebuilding Gaza and securing a just and lasting peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.”
