Rep. Bera on House Passage of Bill to Restore Enhanced Affordable Care Act Subsidies
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released a statement following House passage of legislation that restores enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies for three years. This vote comes after Representative Bera joined all of his House Democratic colleagues and four Republicans on a discharge petition to force this vote over the objections of House Speaker Mike Johnson.
"Since President Trump and Congressional Republicans allowed the Affordable Care Act subsidies to expire, Sacramento County families have been hit with massive increases in their health care premiums. Fewer people are signing up for coverage, and many of those who are renewing are being pushed into lower-tier plans that cover less and cost more out of pocket. Some are being forced to cancel their coverage altogether. These are the consequences of inaction.
"As a doctor, I know what happens when people lose access to health care. They delay care, skip medications, and end up in the emergency room with more serious conditions. That raises costs for everyone and puts more pressure on our health care system.
"That’s why I voted to restore these enhanced subsidies for three years. Every House Democrat signed the discharge petition to bring this bill to the floor, and I’m grateful to the 17 Republicans who joined us to get it passed. Senate Republicans and President Trump now have a choice to make: Do they act to bring families relief, or do they allow this affordability crisis to get worse?”
