Rep. Bera Statement Opposing the House GOP’s Partisan Government Funding Bill

Friday, September 19, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement after voting to reject House Republicans’ partisan government funding proposal:

“President Trump has instructed Republicans not to work with Democrats on a bipartisan agreement to fund the government—even though they need our votes to keep it open. The bill we voted on today shut Democrats out of the process and fails to extend critical Affordable Care Act subsidies, which would cause health care premiums to spike for millions of Americans.

“Let me be clear: the responsibility for a government shutdown would lie squarely with Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. I stand ready to return to Washington and work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to prevent a shutdown and protect affordable health care for hardworking families in Sacramento County and across America.”
