As a congressman and a doctor, I'm committed to fighting climate change. From increased air pollution, greater spread of disease, or extreme weather like the disastrous California wildfires or severe drought, climate change is a serious public health crisis.
In Northern California, we've already seen the devastating impacts of climate change. The Camp Fire was the deadliest fire we've seen in 100 years, claiming 56 lives and costing $16 billion in damages. The fires released dangerous particles into the air, making the air so dangerous that Sacramento schools closed. Northern California cities had some of the worst air quality in the world.
