Like most Americans, the scope and scale of the damage caused by COVID-19 exceeded some of my deepest fears for the security of the United States. This virus doesn't know if we are Democratic or Republican, our religious preferences, or our country of origin. What it has done, however, is expose a grave national security vulnerability to biothreats. Our heightened awareness of potentially catastrophic biothreats has reshaped the national security landscape and the United States should be more prepared to prevent and respond to them in the future.
As members of Congress from different parties, we don't see eye-to-eye on President Biden's decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. We don't agree on timing, scope, or the rationale for leaving. But one belief we do share is that the United States should do everything in its power to support those Afghans who risked their lives serving alongside American servicemembers over the past two decades.
June 16 (Reuters) - Democratic and Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives will introduce legislation this week seeking to boost U.S. support for Taiwan, part of an effort in Congress to take a hard line in dealings with China.
Representatives Ami Bera and Steve Chabot, the Democratic and Republican leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Asia subcommittee, will introduce the "Taiwan Peace and Stability Act," a measure "to support the diplomatic, economic and physical space" of the self-governing island.
U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove, on Dec. 6 expressed his support of the United States' diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing, in response to China's human rights abuses.
While President Joe Biden or any other U.S. government official will not be sent to the upcoming Winter Games, the diplomatic boycott – as opposed to a full boycott – allows U.S. athletes to compete in the games by their own choice.
This year's Winter Olympic Games are scheduled for Feb. 4-20, while the Paralympic Games will be held from March 4-13.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On Monday, President Joe Biden signed his $1 trillion infrastructure deal into law, which he says promises jobs, clean water, high-speed internet and a clean energy future.

The Philippine presidential campaign season is underway. It will be a heated, messy, and imperfect process — as is often the case with democracy. But no matter who wins, the United States and the new Philippine administration should look to strengthen economic, security, and diplomatic ties. Maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific depends on us doing so.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers has announced a new bill that would establish an interagency task force to craft a response to China's use of economic measures to further its geopolitical goals.
Why it matters: The draft bill represents growing awareness in the U.S. that economic coercion is a cornerstone of the Chinese Communist Party's ability to project authoritarianism beyond its borders.

If there is one major tenet that sets apart the foreign policy approaches of U.S. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, it is this: Abandoning American leadership in the international community cedes the power to set international norms, rules, and values to other nations.
Following news of the Taliban takeover, Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove, began working to help more than 7,000 Afghan refugees get out of the country by forwarding requests to the State Department from Americans, Afghans and loved ones with family members who are unsafe in Afghanistan.
Bera joined Sonseeahray on FOX40 News at 11 a.m. to talk about the latest developments.
CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. (KTXL) — With Folsom Lake looking more like a pond, and no way of knowing if the next rainy season will deliver, local water agencies are finding they have to dig deep.
"Water increasingly is a precious commodity as we live through this drought right now," explained Congressman Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove.
Bera met with managers of the Citrus Heights Water District Monday at the site of a well that taps into an aquifer 400 feet underground.
