Earlier today, Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. announced he made good on the oath he made to the people of Sacramento County to decline his Congressional pension until Medicare and Social Security are secure for all Americans. He sent a check to the United States Treasury Bureau of the Public Debt for $4,914.53, the pension amount he accrued during 2013.

Earlier today the U.S. House of Representatives passed by voice vote H.R. 4302, the so-called “Protecting Access to Medicare Act,” which prolongs a broken system. Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. offered the following comment:

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. offered an amendment today to prioritize the hiring of unemployed workers and veterans and the use of American-made equipment and materials in mining operations. The proposal would amend H.R. 2824, the so-called Preventing Government Waste and Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America bill, which would actually create more waste – not less.

The Obama Administration announced new guidance and a proposed rule change to the Affordable Care Act Friday that would help prevent disruptions in care and ensure continuity for consumers. If finalized, this fix will address two significant problems that have affected families' abilities to get the health care that works for them: unnecessary plan cancellations and narrow provider networks. Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. joined more than 30 Members of Congress today calling on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to withdraw their proposed rule change for Medicare Part D. (Text of letter below.) This rule would significantly change the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit, impacting the choice and affordability of drug coverage for nearly 13 million beneficiaries.

In response, CMS has announced they will delay some of the most concerning parts of the new rule and gather more input.
