119th Congress

October 7, 2025

SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, Representative Ami Bera (CA-06) issued the following statement marking two years since the October 7th terror attack on Israel:

“Two years ago today, Hamas terrorists carried out a brutal and unconscionable attack on Israel, murdering nearly 1,200 innocent people — including 46 Americans — and taking hundreds hostage. That day’s horror and trauma still reverberate for Israelis, Jewish communities around the world, and all who believe in peace and human dignity.

Sacramento, CA — Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) condemned the Trump Administration’s revocation of a $50 million federal grant awarded to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) for its Connected Clean PowerCity® project, a major initiative to modernize the electric grid and help the Sacramento region reach zero carbon emissions by 2030.

UPDATE: As of November 12, 2025, Congress passed a Continuing Resolution to reopen the federal government. This measure extends federal funding through January 30, 2026.

While this agreement brought an end to the 43-day government shutdown, several important issues remain at stake — including the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies. I remain deeply committed to working with my colleagues to extend these vital subsidies, helping keep healthcare premiums affordable for more than 20 million Americans.

Washington, D.C. – Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement after voting to reject House Republicans’ partisan government funding proposal:

“President Trump has instructed Republicans not to work with Democrats on a bipartisan agreement to fund the government—even though they need our votes to keep it open. The bill we voted on today shut Democrats out of the process and fails to extend critical Affordable Care Act subsidies, which would cause health care premiums to spike for millions of Americans.
