Military And Veterans
I'm proud that my local office has helped Sacramento County Veterans recover more than $2.9 million in benefits and services they were owed.
More on Military And Veterans
Earlier this week, Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. and local elementary school students participated in the "Valentines for Vets" program in honor of National Salute to Veterans Patients Week (February 9-15th). More than 15 classes at Mission Avenue Elementary School in Carmichael made Valentine's Day cards for veterans at Mather VA Hospital and spent the week learning about the service and sacrifices of our nation's veterans.
Congressman Ami Bera, M.D., voted for a bipartisan bill to help veterans who are facing inexcusable wait times for medical care at VA health facilities – the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act. A compromise that was negotiated by both Republicans and Democrats, the bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 420 to 5. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law by the President. Rep. Bera offered the following comment:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Korean War veterans were honored with an Ambassador of Peace medal at the State Capitol on Friday.
U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove, and the South Korean Ambassador to the United States, Lee Soo-hyuck, held a ceremony for about a dozen veterans who attended the ceremony at the Purple Heart Memorial.
"It's important for the veterans of the Korean War to know that we haven't forgotten their sacrifice and service," Bera said.
The Korean War spanned from 1950 to 1953.
Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club Treasurer Nancy Fox said that her husband, World War II veteran Bill Fox, recently received timely assistance after she contacted U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove.
Bill, a Wilton resident who is currently under hospice care, is suffering from dementia, cannot walk without using a walker, and has one kidney that is operating at 28 percent.
He served in a supply unit in the Pacific during World War II and he was the honorary grand marshal in the 2014 Elk Grove Veterans Day Parade.
On this Veterans Day, I want to say thank you to our Sacramento County's veterans. Our veterans have made incredible sacrifices for our country, and we owe them nothing less than our unwavering support.
I'm proud that my office has helped recover more than $2.6 million in benefits and services for veterans. We've helped over 3,000 local service members and veterans with backlogged benefits, health care, and other federal government problems. This is the least we can to support our service members and their families.
Here's a quick update on the work my team and I are doing to serve our community.
Coronavirus Update:
While the threat of the coronavirus is relatively low in the United States at this time, we must be vigilant and prepared.
That's why I hosted the first congressional hearing on the coronavirus outbreak this month. We hosted expert health officials who discussed how the U.S. can best respond to this growing public health threat.
Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA) was selected by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to serve on the influential House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for the 118th Congress. The Intelligence Committee is charged with providing oversight of the nation's intelligence activities, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), National Security Agency (NSA), as well as the military intelligence programs.
Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-07) today voted for the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, historic legislation to expand health care access for millions of veterans exposed to toxic substances during their time in service.
The House of Representatives voted today in a strong bipartisan manner to pass the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA, which provides the annual budget for the Department of Defense (DOD), included key provisions authored by Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation.
