Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) today issued the following statement after the election of U.S. Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“For the past three weeks, an entire branch of our government has remained at a standstill due to the chaos of a vacant Speaker’s chair. Congress has urgent work to do to lower costs for working families, provide aid to our allies and partners around the world, and fully fund our government before a government shutdown in 23 days.

Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06), along with 97 members of the New Democrat Coalition, sent a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy calling on him to urgently advance bipartisan government funding bills to avert a government shutdown.
